I was onto something with the indoor soccer/futsal shoes 👁️👁️ 👟

The pair of shoes I like to wear every day is a pair of Onitsuka Tiger Serrano's. They're just old OG ASICS flats that ASICS still sells as a designer brand.

They cost a lot to get shipped directly from Japan. I think when I purchased my original pair, it was $130 with $15 shipping, so $145 total. This was before USA tariffs.

I've had them for a while and I enjoy wearing them, but I never thought to seriously play dance games in them because they're a tad too roomy for my liking since I played it safe on the sizing since there was no way to try them on in-person before ordering.

Since they were getting old and beat up, I bought a couple new replacement pairs off of eBay going bargain hunting, in my proper size (USA Men's Size 9/9.5). It seems like they're produced in China as well-- they could be counterfeit but the feel is exactly the same in terms of fit, weight, materials. They're like $65 USD on eBay, compared to the $200 now direct.

So since then, I was planning on waiting until my USA Men's Size 10 pair wore out to replace them (they're really beat and getting there!), but then I decided to play in a pair of the new ones on a whim yesterday.

Insane difference between my form in the Nike Flex Experience Run 12's and the Tigers. It feels like I don't need to expend nearly as much energy lifting up my heels, the shoes feel super weightless/locked down.

For reference, the edit pictured above is like a 172BPM near-unbroken stream for the majority of the edit. Normally my legs get really tired playing it in the Nike Flexes, but I think it's because my form is nowhere near as efficient in them.

I think the Tigers probably going to become my new main shoe to play in. The only downside to these shoes is that they SQUEAL. The outsole rubber is insanely high quality/grippy, so I think it'll take a while for it to wear so that it doesn't make as much noise. In the meantime I think I can use a pinch of baby powder to silence them.

The combo of low heel drop + low weight + high grip seems to make me play my best in regard to form & utilizing all the muscle mass I have built in my legs from running regularly-- I felt this when I used to play in the indoor soccer/futsal shoes I have, because of the low heel drop.

The Nike Flex Experience Run 12's are still insanely comfy though in general. They feel like cushioned socks, which I really like for walking around. So I think those are going to become my walking shoes, and the Tigers are going to become my dance gaming shoes.

In a perfect world, I think I would either find or create a shoe that fits exactly like the Tigers, but has a foam bottom similar to the Flexes. That way all the things I like about the Tigers are there, but it doesn't squeak from extreme grip lol.
