Dance Games - Total Focus and Entering "True" Flow State

On 3/3/25, I had a really cool experience during my daily dance game workout session. I just felt super ultra chill mentally. Hard feeling to describe. I was able to have a degree of fine muscle control during that session playing that I wasn't able to have before, where I felt like I could control all of the muscles in my feet, legs, arms, etc instantly without any sort of lag and it all just felt effortless.

I was talking to another friend of mine the other day, and the words they used to describe it captures the feeling perfectly: "It's like a quietness in your brain, like all of the noise is gone."

That's exactly how I felt! It was really cool, and I was super pumped up the rest of the night because of how well I felt like I performed. Not pumped about the scores per say, but just the feeling in my head of having that mental clarity while playing.

I passed 4 new D21s without getting gassed at all, got Advanced 5, and also passed Caprice of DJ Otada D22 with a AAA+ which my peers said was impressive. It felt pretty easy to me in the moment, so I was surprised about the latter.

On 3/4/25, I experienced a similar feeling again mentally where everything felt quiet in my head and I was able to minimize my form really well and a SS+ on District 1 D21.

There is a part in the song that involves doing a RBR/BRB/RBR/BRB pattern across the pads, and then back doing the same pattern in reverse reminiscent of the UDU/DUD pattern found in Possession EDP 17 in DDR doubles. I usually get frozen up on it mentally processing it slowly, but this time I didn't freeze.

I can't really put my finger on what allowed me to get into this enhanced/"true" flow state, but it felt completely different and unlike how I have ever felt before playing any dance game or performing any sort of activity in my life.

It was completely different from the normal feeling of focus I have, where I feel like I am actively exerting energy in my brain to focus. It was just passive and I didn't have to think about focusing, and it felt like I didn't have to spend as much mental energy on translating what I wanted to do in my head to what my muscles were/are doing. It felt very meditative in the moment, rather than feeling meditative after the fact (runner's high & feeling chilled out from exercising).
